The Latvian Information and Communications Technology Association (LIKTA) is a professional association, founded in 1998, that regroups over 85 organisational members from ICT industry, research and educational institutions, as well as about 100 individual professional members of the ICT industry sector in Latvia, namely in computer hardware and software, electronics, and telecommunications infrastructure and service providers.
LIKTA is a spokesman on behalf of the ICT industry in Latvia.The principal objective of LIKTA is to promote and further the development of Information Society and E-services in Latvia, so that all citizens may be given the opportunity to benefit from ICT and contribute to the Knowledge based economy. LIKTA works toward increasing e-awareness in society by organising conferences and educational endeavours and takes an active part in preparing both professional study programs for IT specialists and E-skills programs for citizens. It also provides expert advice to governmental institutions on legislative and other matters related to ICT, and maintains close links to other more specific ICT industry associations, as well as to corresponding organisations abroad.
An important aim of LIKTA is to encourage the growth of a vigorous ICT industry in Latvia and to lend support to the selling of ICT products and services abroad. LIKTA hosts the Information Technology Cluster, regrouping close to twenty export oriented ICT enterprises.
